Adelaide had a year to forget. As well as sacking their coach and recruiting Richard Tambling, the Crows suspended captain Nathan Van Berlo for his fading tan.

Channel Seven’s commentary team also made a number of embarrassing errors this season. In round 1, Bruce McAvaney failed to describe indigenous Melbourne defender Jamie Bennell as exciting. Later in the year, Dennis Cometti neglected to mention Brad Green’s Manchester United background after the Melbourne captain soccered a crucial goal. The White Maggot acknowledges that these were the same joke.
