As speculation surrounding Travis Cloke’s future threatens to jeopardise Collingwood’s premiership assault, the Port Adelaide Football Club is concerned that conjecture regarding midfielder Travis Boak’s future may also de-rail the Power’s 2012 season.
“It’s come at a bad time for us. You know, if we manage to string a few wins together, I don’t want to jinx it, but… we’re a genuine chance to umm… I can’t even say it… finish 14th.”
Deluca acknowledged the distraction regarding Boak’s future, coupled with “sub-standard coaching staff” and the “genuine lack of ability on the playing list”, was affecting the club’s on-field performance.
In related news, Port Adelaide yesterday carried through on their veiled threat to send coach Matthew Primus and captain Domenic Cassisi to Geelong to meet Joel Selwood. Unfortunately, the pure irony of the situation was lost, when Selwood failed to recognise the Port Adelaide pair.
